2008
Boston Marathon Participant |
2008
will bring many challenges and opportunities for
Achieva Resources. We are excited to report that
Rick Niersbach, Vice President Chief Operations
Officer with RMD/Patti, will be running in this
year’s Boston Marathon. Achieva is excited that
he has chosen this event to be a fundraiser for
Achieva Resources. On April 8, 2008, Rick will fulfill
a lifelong dream to run in the Boston Marathon along
with over 25,000 other marathoners. This will be
hard (26.2 miles on foot is always hard) but not
so hard as he will be running for the thousand children
and adults that Achieva Resources services on an
annual basis. Rick stated “I am truly humbled by
this opportunity. Not only to run in this historic
foot race, but to do so knowing that we are all
helping to raise awareness and funds for Achieva.”
A Boston Marathon 2008 donation form is available
at Achieva if you would like to support this fundraising
event. Let’s all get behind and support Rick Niersbach
as he runs the Boston Marathon.

Karen
Toney
Karen
Toney began her working relationship with the “Fate
Center” aka Landmark Services, Inc. on April 1,
1976. She has always worked in Industrial Services
Program in various roles as a Group Leader, Trainer,
Production Supervisor and most recently Production
Coordinator. Karen has also volunteered with Special
Olympic Program. She stated “the biggest reward
is helping consumers be all they can and want to
be”. Karen says she has enjoyed every moment with
the consumers and can’t imagine being anywhere else.
Her supervisor, Sandy Burns, states “she represents
stability to our consumers which is an awesome responsibility
that she takes very seriously”. She has seen a lot
of changes over the years, the biggest being the
greater acceptance of people with disabilities in
her community. Karen takes great pride in the fact
that she was part of this change.
She and her husband live in Connersville. They have
2 children and 2 grandchildren. Karen enjoys fishing,
boating, picture taking and Pretty Punch. Congratulations
Karen on your 31 years of service and many thanks
for the dedication to our consumers and Achieva
Resources.
Sharon
Collier

Sharon
Collier, Director of Volunteer Services at Reid
Hospital and Healthcare Services was elected as
Chairperson of the Board of Directors for Achieva
Resources and took office November 1, 2006. Sharon
has been a member of the Green Acres Board of Directors
for seven years. She has been very active on the
Board as Chairperson of the Program Services Committee
for three years and an active member of various
other Board Committees, in addition to volunteering
for our fundraising events. Her first task this
year was reorganizing our Board of Directors and
assigning them to specific committee’s. At her first
Board Meeting, Sharon asked all Directors to complete
a Board Assessment Survey that will help establish
future Board goals and objectives. Sharon understands
that there is a great need for the Board to be knowledgeable
of Achieva programs; and how our Consumers can be
better served. To accomplish higher levels of understanding
necessary for an effective governing body, she has
set a goal to have continuous education provided
to the Board on an on-going monthly basis. This
will be a major task for management staff to provide
in this fast changing world of service providers.
However, she commented, the management team of this
organization is solid; and will be able to more
than satisfactorily meet the needs of the Board
and keep us up to date and knowledgeable.
Sharon has worked at Reid Hospital for 36 years,
spending the majority of her time as Employment
Manager in the Human Resources Department. She was
promoted to her current position three years ago.
Sharon and her husband Coleman enjoy spending time
with their grandchildren, traveling and enjoying
their 1962 MGA.
