Achieva Completes Construction of Connersville Expansion Project
Achieva Resources has completed the 5,200 sq. ft. expansion and remodeling of its facility located at 1455 East 5th Street, Connersville, Indiana. Approximately two years ago the Fayette County Commission and Council agreed to be a sponsor for a grant application that was submitted to the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs. The grant was funded in the amount of $500,000. Achieva received assistance in the writing of our grant application from the Fayette County Economic Development Group. Special Thanks is given to Jolissa Pollock, grant administrator for the successful writing and submission of the project grant. Achieva also wishes to thank our architect, Joe Balfour, for his design of the project and for his work as Construction Manager to make sure that the project was completed to its specification. Maxwell Construction Company of Greendale, Indiana was the successful bidder for this project. We were extremely blessed that the majority of the subcontractors for this project were companies from Fayette County.
The purpose of this project was to renovate and expand our Connersville location to be used as a center for adults with intellectual and cognitive and medically fragile disabilities. The expansion will provide accessible restrooms, space for adaptive equipment, and accessible shower, changing rooms, medical treatment rooms and space for habilitation and vocational training. Two kitchens were added which will allow the individuals to gain skills in meal preparations and cooking. There is also a room for our nurse to monitor health conditions of the individual we serve. This facility also houses Achieva’s Health Families, Employment Services, First Steps and our older adult program. Currently, 292 are receiving services in this facility. With the completion of this project, Achieva is projecting to serve an addition 50 intellectual, cognitive or medically fragile individual over the next two years.
Achieva Resources would also like to thank the following two employees, Jim Mickschl and Randy Coldiron for all of their efforts in completing the remodeling portion of the original facility. Without their dedication and many hours of work, this renovation project would not have been completed. Achieva is planning an Open House of this facility in the Spring of 2010. Please watch for the date in the local papers and radio station.

Achieva's CEO recieves state honor
Dan Stewart, President/CEO of Achieva Resources Corporation, Inc in Richmond, has received the Indiana Association of Rehabilitation Facilities’ (INARF) Chairman’s Award, an annual honor given to an outstanding executive in the field of rehabilitation.
The award was presented in Indianapolis on March 11 during the 2009 INARF Annual Conference for Indiana professionals serving persons with disabilities.

In his role as CEO of Achieva, Stewart grew the number of counties served by his organization from one to 27 and expanded the number of individuals served to over 4,500 children and 1,100 adults with disabilities.
Stewart currently serves as President of the Board of Directors of Smart Partners Alliance – a corporation that implements Indiana’s State Use Program and educates, encourages, and supports others by promoting employment and other services for people with disabilities. President's Corner
In October 2009, I was proud to be re-elected as Chairman of the Indiana State Rehabilitation Commission. Their Mission Statement is to assist person with disabilities and achieving employment and independence. The Commission consists of 15 individuals appointed by the Governor of Indiana. The Commission works in partnership with the Division of Disability and Rehabilitative Services. The Commission develops, agrees to and reviews State goal and priorities regarding the effectiveness of the Vocational Rehabilitation Program. The Commission develops an annual report that is submitted to the Rehabilitation Services Administration and the Governor. The Commission also conducts public hearings to receive input in the development of the State Rehabilitation Program.
I am also pleased to report that two of our group homes applied for re-licensure to the State Board of Health to meet the expanding medical and active treatment needs of the individuals we serve. Our facility located at 820 Mendleson Drive is now certified as a Basic Development Home and 825 Mendleson Drive is certified as a Development Training Home. The purpose of re-licensing these homes was to increase the number of staff that will be available to assist our consumers with their personal, social and training needs. We will now have multiple staff working during the second and third shifts. I want to thank Karen Robinson QMRP for the outstanding job that she did in preparing the re-licensure applications.
